Get To Know Your Children To Raise Them Better

Reading expands the mind, keeping it open to new and great ideas. So, it’s not surprising that many parents go to bookstores or scour the internet for parenting tips because parenting can be tricky. They really need all the help they can get.

However, it is important to note that even the #1 best selling book for 12 straight weeks is not the one size fits all solution to parenting challenges. All children are unique, which means that even two kids from the same family require completely different parenting approaches. This is where really knowing children and how they respond to actions and reactions come into play.

While there are great tips out there from experts or experienced parents, it will have to be tweaked based on the needs of a child. This is the message of an article I recently came across entitled: Parenting Books Don’t Know Everything from Independent.ie.

So, as the article suggests, get to know children so the proper parenting technique can be applied to them. The goal here is to bring out the best in children, and this can be done by knowing them and what works for them.

Happy Parenting!

  1. As a parent & a parenting author I agree Anne. We are all individuals and we cannot be prescriptive. Readers of parenting/baby books may wish to consider this too. A method that suits one may not suit another but some learning can be taken from all books. Don’t stress put if suggestions don’t work out just learn a little more about your baby, child or even yourself through the process.

Thank you for your very insightful comment. Often, parent’s fall into the one-size-fits all parenting solution trap – there’s no such thing. Hope you’re having a great Sunday morning, Mama Viv.

  2. I suppose that’s where the saying, “Mom knows best” comes from. Because only Mom spends that much time with their own kids… and therefore no book can tell them what works for their unique situation otherwise!
