  1. Great post! Our family always tries to capitalize on life’s teaching moments. Frustration is a good one!

      Making use of these moments are good. Some parents fail to do this – not that they are at fault – thereby failing to teach their kids to see the good in the bad.

  2. I agree with you. It’s a way to teach them to work through things on their own and learn confidence.

    As parent we just have to watch frustation and don’t let it TURN TO ANGER =}

      Anger can be a good thing too – if it’s properly managed, of course. However, if it can be avoided, why not, right? How have you been, Pam?

  4. I completely agree. There isn’t much to learn from things going well, as unfortunate as it may seem, we learn and grow the most when things don’t go right. Frustration teaches patience, which we could all use a little more of!

      How true and beautifully said! We’re forced to push back only when we’re being cornered. Thanks for the great comment.

  5. Children should be able to feel all emotions, because with a trusted adult’s help, it will allow them to develop healthy ways to respond. While I hate to see my little girl upset, I always try to look at it as a teaching moment to teach patience, perseverance, and optimism.

  7. I left my comment there too. I truly am concerned that we are going to have a bunch of adults, who can’t handle anything, because they were so sheltered as kids. If you can’t learn to get through a frustrating time, you are not going to make it in this world.

      So true, Courtney! Frustration is at every corner so instead of avoiding it, it’s best to deal with it. Thanks for leaving a comment here and on babies online. Am sure new parents will benefit from your insightful comment.

      Hey Pepper, did you do a double take on the title? It is an odd concept but one that (hopefully) makes sense to parents, especially new ones. Thanks for dropping by dear!

  9. Thanks again for the post, Anne. And thank you to you and your readers for their comments!

  10. Hi Anne – loved the article and posted my comment over on the babiesonline page. I guess we’re all so paranoid nowadays that we are sucking as parents and our kids will blame us for their failures unless we get it 100% right, that we fall into the trap of trying to ‘fix things’ for our kids so they keep smiling and never get stressed. Agree with above poster that we are just breeding a whole generation of emotionally weak adults! Shared your article on my own blog too btw, it was too awesome to keep to myself ;-)

      Thank you for sharing this, Chrissy! I believe that we need to let our children feel everything they will as adults and walk them through it. It’s the only way they’ll learn to view life – including the “downs” – in a healthy manner.
