Family News: Being Silly Can Teach Kids Impt. Life Skills. Seriously

From the archive. This post was first published on the original Green Eggs and Moms blog and is kept here as it was.

Silly Family News: Being Silly Can Teach Kids Impt. Life Skills. SeriouslyDid you know that those silly antics you pull-off in front of your toddler can do more than just elicit tons of high pitched giggles?

According to a funded research by the Economic & Social Research Council, joking and pretending teaches children necessary life skills that help them later in life. If you think this is all a joke, it’s actually serious stuff. See for yourself and click on the link above.

Researcher Dr. Hoicka says that teaching kids to joke helps them develop skills for making friends and coping with stress. As for playing pretend, it encourages creativity and helps develop problem solving skills. Do you know of any parent who don’t want their kids to have these skill sets handy? I didn’t think so.

What are you waiting for? Get your silly-mom or silly-dad hat on and give your toddler some serious joke time.

Note: Joking and pretending are not only to toddlers. Please apply to older kids as well.
