Mom Lets 9 Year Old Drive to School, in a Real Car

Wasn’t that awesome? Even I can’t do that and I have far more driving experience than he does. Children driving toy cars are absolutely adorable.
But would you let your child drive a real car en route to school?
That’s what a mom from Delaware, USA did. The woman allowed her 9-year old son (yes, n-i-n-e) to drive to school while she sat on the passenger’s seat. Well, at least she was supervising, right? Thank goodness. It means she hasn’t gone off the far end yet.
Why did she let her son drive? Because he begged her to. Apparently, her son has been driving- in the safety of a field- since he was 5 (yes, that’s f-i-v-e).
This got me thinking…
Are we afraid of our kids?
Perhaps all of us are guilty of this. I recall times when I would give in to my child’s requests even if I shouldn’t. But there’s one big difference. Those requests I grant pose no danger to my son, myself and others. I let him stay up way past his bedtime. It’s not like I put his life, my life and the life of every other person on the road in his tiny little hands.
What’s the take away?
We parents are the adults. No matter how much begging, whining, pleading or screaming children do, we shouldn’t budge. Especially if it is something as serious as driving a real car on the road. Safety should always come first.
