Teacher Uses Graded Assignment to Gain More Facebook Votes

Education is every child’s basic right. It is also one of the best gifts parents can give their children. It is crucial to one’s development as an individual and as a member of society. Schools, therefore, are secondary homes where morals, values and lessons are instilled in young and impressionable minds.
However, as a busy parent trying to provide the best education for your children, how sure are you that he is getting the proper training at school? A recent post from Saylala.com, a Filipino blog, will push you to be more involved in your child’s schooling.
Ms. Computer Teacher! Teach me Facebook?
Here’s the gist of the post. The blogger was shocked, to say the least, when her 9-year old brother came home one day with his computer homework. He, and the rest of his class, were being asked to log-in to FB to vote for the teacher’s daughter, who apparently was a pageant participant.
I’ll give you time to digest that.

Oh, did I mention that this was a graded homework?
Appalling isn’t it? You work tirelessly, day and night to provide the best for your children and this is what you get. I am beyond disbelief that an educator would do such a thing, and for what? All to win a pageant which has no academic value for the computer class she teaches.
The takeaway
Tighter reigns on educators. Of course, this is an isolated case but school administrators should be stricter with the curriculum. More importantly, be more involved in your child’s education. Once in a while, check in on his assignments and tests to make sure that his time and potential are not wasted by some misguided teacher.
