Text4baby Text4Baby Provides Free Support to Moms Via MessagingMoms-to-be and new moms are fortunate when they have their family and friends to guide them through motherhood. However, not all moms are lucky to have people they can ask advice from. So, what can they do to get support? Subscribe to text4baby.

Text4baby is a US-based messaging service for expectant and new moms. Subscribers receive text messages thrice a week, containing health and baby tips. Oh, did I mention that it’s free?

After registration, moms are asked to enter either their due date or baby’s birthday. This way, text4baby can send information depending on the baby’s age. Whether a mom is 6 months along or has a 6 month-old, the service can provide information on pre-natal care or solid food feeding tips accordingly.

But that’s not all. The service also reminds moms not to miss their scheduled doctor appointments. This is a much better replacement for nagging grandmas-to-be or partners.

Is text4baby really an effective mode for information dissemination?

According to Eurekalert.com, a survey conducted by the Alliance Healthcare Foundation found that users are happy with the service. More importantly, moms said that text4baby helped them get to shceduled doctor appointments or immunization, increased their knowledge on medical warning signs and encouraged them to talk with their doctors about issues they learned from the service.

Though the survey worked with a small number of moms from the San Diego county, the findings show text4baby’s effectiveness in providing assistance to mothers.

I think it’s a really great service which I hope will eventually reach moms outside the US. Say, here in the Phils? This would be an amazing support system for moms who are alone, or those who don’t always have access to medical and parenting information. Besides, what could be easier than receiving tips and reminders on a cellphone? Very convenient.
