Trick or Treat!
No one ever chooses the “trick” part, and I don’t think anyone has for ages. Mostly it’s “treat” and by that I mean candies of all shapes and sizes. While I do love candy on Halloween, there are more fun & healthy options to giving away sweets.
“What do I consider before preparing for trick or treat?”
There are kids who:
- are diabetic
- are athletes, therefore they or their parents prefer healthier food
- are health conscious
- may be overweight
- wear braces making bubble gum a challenge to eat
“What are alternatives to Halloween candy?”
There are tons of other things you can cram in a trick or treat bag. But you’re going to have to go out of your comfort zone when shopping for alternatives because it requires a bit of legwork.
- Candy (edible) – opt for sugar free gum or chocolates
- Toys (non-edible) – playing cards, bubble bottles, pencils & erasers, small rubix cubes, play-doh, bracelets, notepads, tiny crayons, mood rings and other small toys.
Want more ideas? You can click here (some items are pricey but if you’re just after ideas this is good resource) OR ask your / other children what it is they want to see in a trick or treat bag.
For those who live in Manila, you can head to Divisoria to buy non-edible Halloween candy alternatives. If you live in another city or country, head to your favorite thrift store. Happy Halloween!
