October is the time when ghouls and goblins roam around the earth, which means tiny trick or treaters are everywhere.
How are our little ones dressed for this spooktacular time? With their costumes, plastic props (rats, roaches, masks, lanterns and what not), face paint and other additions to help them blend in this season. However, I came across warning about how these seemingly kid-friendly items may be dangerous to children.
According to The Zombie Hunter blog, some Halloween accessories contain toxic substances such as lead, cadmium and mercury. I did research on these for a particular article I wrote before and know enough to echo the sentiments of the blog: it’s dangerous to expose kids to these substances.
Putting things into perspective, there’s an allowable level for lead, cadmium and mercury in commercial products. However, someone did their homework and found that some Halloween accessories contain levels beyond legal limits.
The message: Stay away from Halloween props this year and go au naturel. Simple (and organic) costumes will do. You don’t need all the props in the world to make Halloween memorable because kids remember the fun memories more than anything.
