Halloween is fun for everyone. Until a zombie or two starts throwing tantrums. So, how do you keep your little monsters all smiles during trick or treat? Here are parenting tips to help ensure their mood levels are up.
Comfortable costumes = happy children
The desire for kids to look amazingly cute is at an all-time high during spook night. However, let common sense reign and keep your competitive streak at bay, for your children’s sake.
- That Tigger costume may look adorable, but how comfy is it to wear? For those who live in hotter countries, it’s just not advisable to have children use something that’ll insulate heat and cause them to sweat profusely. Really. You don’t want this.
- That Spiderman costume, including the mask, maybe crime-fightingly wonderful but the mask might cover the eyes, making it difficult to see. It may also cover the nose to hamper breathing. Again, you don’t want this.
How can you be sure costumes are comfy?
Obviously you can’t try on the costumes, so let your children do this several days before trick or treating. This will expose any issues they might have with their costumes.
Also, make sure that:
- The costume’s material breathes well to keep your children cool
- Masks or any other head accessories does not block eyesight or hamper breathing
- Those little fluffy princess gowns or other costumes are easy to move around in
- Other accessories like wands, shields, swords and screen-door shields are light, making them easy to carry during long walks
Follow these to make sure your children are comfortable this Halloween. The last thing you want is a melt-down in the middle of the street.
